Money from the sales of these paintings will be donated to an earthquake survivor in Turkey.

“On 6 February 2023, at 04:17, a Mw 7.8 earthquake struck southern and central Turkey and northern and western Syria. There was widespread damage in an area of about 350,000 km2, about the size of Germany. An estimate of 14 million people, or 16 percent of Turkey's population, were affected. An estimate of 1.5 million people were left homeless. The confirmed death toll stood at 59,259: 50,783 in Turkey and 8,476 in Syria.“

This series was a part of my fundraiser exhibitions earlier this year. The paintings are a set of seismograms of the large magnitude earthquake and the aftershocks. I had actually made them far before 6th of February but it was indeed inspired from Turkey being an earthquake area and the fear of it we silently have. I hadn’t yet felt the grief at the time I made them therefore the paintings are looking more cheerful than how the tragedy felt. The use of pink was for contrast to achieve dramatic waves and it had a dusty effect that I wanted to see in the paintings. But now it represents the miracle of surviving. Events like these remind you how belongings mean nothing, all that matters is people we love…

The first fundraiser I donated the money to an organization that was helping people in the earthquake area. The second time I decided to read the comments under this organization’s posts to see if people were actually getting help. Oh how I wish I thought of doing that the first event. There were indeed people writing they had not yet received any help in their region. It’s amazing how through Instagram we can reach people from anywhere at any given time. I scouted through the comments quickly and picked someone with a child, and reached out. Decided my small contributions might be more effective if someone in need received it directly. The earnings from this series will continue to help this family rebuild their life and hopefully heal through their grief.

This series is for the survivors and hope.
